Joy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 3 years

Joy is a lovely girl with plenty of charm, and once she gets to know you, you'll soon see what a special companion she can be! She can be a little nervous when meeting new people for the first time, but she usually comes around quickly and starts to show off her lovely personality. The big wide world can sometimes feel a little overwhelming for Joy, particularly when she's somewhere new or faced with unfamiliar experiences. She'll need a patient, understanding home that can help her build confidence at her own pace, with ongoing positive training and plenty of reassurance. With the right support, Joy can continue learning that new experiences aren't quite so scary after all.Joy is a bigger girl who can be strong and bouncy at times, so she'll be best suited to someone with experience handling larger dogs. She's still learning to feel comfortable around other dogs and would much prefer to be the only dog in the home, where she can enjoy all the love and attention for herself! Due to her prey drive, she cannot live with cats.Because of her size and enthusiastic nature, Joy would be best suited to a home without young children. However, she could live with teenagers aged 15 and over who understand how to behave appropriately around dogs.Joy will need multiple visits to our centre so she can get to know her potential adopters and begin building that all-important trust before heading off to her new home. We know that getting to know her takes a little time, but we have a feeling her lovely personality and charm will soon win you over!Joy is looking for someone who will see the lovely girl behind those initial nerves and give her the chance to flourish. With patience, understanding and a little time, she could be the perfect addition to your home.

About Joy

What life with Joy looks like

Joy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at RSPCA Cornwall Branch in Saint Columb.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Cornwall Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Cornwall Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Joy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Cornwall Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
