Juka

Belgian Malinois · Female · Adult · 8 years

Juka is an open, very friendly and active female Malinois dog. She is very soft with her people, wants to please, and is generally very eager to do everything right. She bonds closely with her trusted people, and social praise and recognition are very important to her. During joint 'thing working' sessions, Juka is full of fun and motivation and wishes to have people who also have the same enthusiasm for training and working with their dog. External stimuli like cars or dog encounters stress her quickly. Unfortunately, over the years, she has generalized that the 'way to go' at these encounters is to be triggered and yelled at. Juka is gradually learning to accept guidance and can then engage very well. In general, Juka is a female dog who is happy with a clear structure; she gets lost quickly in stress and excitement. Juka is generally more easy to lead and eager to do everything right, which makes working with her a lot of fun. Juka is an ideal hiking companion and sports partner. She knows how to run on a harness. She can also go well on a short leash. With other dogs, Juka is rather limited to overbearing and conflict-seeking. She can work with the right counterpart after a slow build-up, but should not be introduced to existing dogs. We are looking for people for the female Malinois dog who are willing to work with her and have a desire for such a working dog. Do you think you are the right person for Juka or would you like to get to know her better?

About Juka

What life with Juka looks like

Juka is a large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Reactive to cars and other dogs, needs structured training and experienced handling

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Juka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Juka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Juka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Juka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Juka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Juka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Juka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
