Kaja

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

On July 13 (Monday), on the busy Aušros Street in Rudamina, a frightened dog was wandering aimlessly on the road, jumping around and nearly getting run over by cars. Fortunately, our employee happened to be driving down the same street at that very moment. She stopped, spoke to the dog, and took it into her care. She even asked some men working nearby, but they said they’d never seen such a dog before. So there was nothing left to do but take the dog along to the shelter. It’s a female dog, about 6–8 years old; she doesn’t have a microchip or a tag with a phone number. Her coat is in poor condition, and the smell was so strong that we had to drive with the windows open the entire way... If she does have owners, it doesn’t seem like they’re particularly concerned about her... If this is your dog, we’ll be waiting for proof and an explanation as to why she’s running around unsupervised, putting herself and others at risk, and why she’s in such poor condition... Please write to us at [email address]. We’ve named the newcomer Kaja. She’ll need vaccinations, medication against internal and external parasites, identification tagging, and spaying... The total cost will be around 200 EUR... If you’d like to help prepare Kaja for her new life, you can find out how here: Payment purpose: For Kaja and others.

About Kaja

What life with Kaja looks like

Kaja is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at SOS Gyvūnai in Šalčininkų r. sav..

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇹Adopting from Lithuania

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Gyvūnai handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Gyvūnai will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Gyvūnai early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
