Kalamiti

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

Kalamiti – a fearful female dog seeks patient people with hearts. Kalamiti has spent her entire life in an animal shelter in Žarkovica – first there, then in the new shelter. She has only known life in a pack and has gathered little experience outside of shelter life. Accordingly, she reacts uncertainly to new situations and strangers. If she feels threatened or cornered, she may snap out of fear. For Kalamiti, we are therefore searching for a particularly experienced and patient home where she can be met with understanding, calm, and structure. People who know fearful dogs and understand that building trust takes time are ideal. A quiet, rural home with a securely fenced garden would be ideal – one with little traffic, noise, or frequent visitors. Kalamiti should be allowed to live as a single dog, so she can come at her own pace and feel safe. At the animal shelter, she shows social behavior within her pack and gets along well with dogs of both sexes. Running on a leash outside is something she has not yet experienced, but with patience, positive training, and a loving environment, she can learn to step by step discover the world. Kalamiti is not a dog for quick success – but for people with hearts who take joy in giving safety and trust to a particularly shy animal. With stability and affection, she also has the chance to bloom one day.

About Kalamiti

What life with Kalamiti looks like

Kalamiti is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalamiti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalamiti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalamiti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalamiti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalamiti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalamiti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalamiti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
