Kalu

Male · Young · 1 year

Kalu is a big doggy kid with a huge heart and even greater personal charm, who can brighten even the cloudiest day with his joy. He is a volcano of positive energy - with childlike naivety, innocence and curiosity he is just discovering the world and loves everything with his whole being. Kalu is a guy who is not aware of his strength or size - but he perfectly knows how to love. He is adorable, funny, positive, full of enthusiasm and curiosity. The world is a huge playground for him: he runs, jumps, plays, explores, sniffs, and then briefly cuddles up to a person, only to immediately set off again, always ready for a new adventure. On walks he can initially pull - emotions and excitement take over, especially when leaving the animal shelter. He needs about 15-20 minutes to calm down. And once he does, he can walk beautifully and calmly, responding to every call. He is a dog that really wants to cooperate with a person, he just still needs to learn how to do it. He is smart, curious and quickly grasps the rules. He is also very hungry for human contact, loves petting and moments together - he rolls over, cuddles and makes the most disarming and touching puppy faces in L size. Kalu is very interested in other dogs - sometimes even too much. Emotions take over when he sees other dogs in the shelter kennels, but there is no aggression in him, rather great curiosity. On walks, especially in quieter areas, he calms down more nicely: he looks at the dogs with curiosity, but without tightening the leash. His relationships with other dogs require work and training, like a typical teenage dog, but he has great predispositions and attitude for it. What home would be best for Kalu? - one that understands the needs of a young, large, strong and energetic dog, - active and ready for joint walks and learning walking rules, - with a sense of humor and patience - Kalu is a loved, mischievous pup who really needs a guide and training, - without small children (due to size and energy). We don't know Kalu's relationship with other pets, including cats. If Kalu were to go to a home where there is already another dog or other animal, an introduction to the resident would be required.

PL·Show original

Kalu to duże psie dziecko z ogromnym sercem i jeszcze większym urokiem osobistym, które swoją radością potrafi rozświetlić nawet najbardziej pochmurny dzień. Potrzebuje około 15–20 minut, by się wyciszyć.

About Kalu

What life with Kalu looks like

Kalu is a large young adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient training for leash walking and socialization with other dogs

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
