Adopt Kami (HSH, groß)

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Name: Kami Age: Born in May 2025 Breed: Maremmano Abruzzese Gender: male dog Neutered: no Weight: still growing, will be large Get along with dogs? yes More outgoing or timid? friendly, puppy-like, playful and open Notes: Kami is a young Maremmano Abruzzese, a still-growing herding dog male dog weighing approximately 27 kg (as of November 2025). In the hands of his familiar people, he shows affectionate, cuddly, playful, and very clingy behavior. However, his genes clearly carry the typical characteristics of a herding dog. Kami needs people who understand and appreciate these special traits. He is a clever, sensitive young dog who requires a calm, confident, and reliable leadership. Clear structures give him orientation and security. Toward strangers, he shows typical working-dog skepticism and territoriality—he does not want to be touched without permission and will reliably guard his home and family. His future owners should be ready and capable to handle this responsibly. With fellow animals, Kami gets along well; on his foster home, he lives with two other dogs, which works without problems. A nice single dog may already live in the new home. Due to a diagnosed hip problem and the need for regular physiotherapy, Kami requires an environment that takes his physical needs into account. People with herding dog experience or in-depth knowledge about these breeds are sought, who know that independent and territorial traits will become even more pronounced in adulthood. His future home must be ground-floor, to avoid stress from stairs. A very secure garden is a prerequisite—both for his movement on a joint-friendly ground and for his working-dog territorial development. Kami seeks people who will not manipulate him but respect his innate qualities and guide him with loving consistency. Kami needs a lot of time and patience to be raised and trained according to his disposition. Kami lives on a foster home and can only be met by appointment. If you are seriously interested, we are happy to arrange a meeting for you. Gets along with other dogs.

About Kami (HSH, groß)

What life with Kami (HSH, groß) looks like

Kami (HSH, groß) is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kami (HSH, groß), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kami (HSH, groß)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigsburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kami (HSH, groß) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kami (HSH, groß) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigsburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kami (HSH, groß) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kami (HSH, groß) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigsburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kami (HSH, groß) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
