Kamila

German Shepherd · Female · Senior · 12 years

Our 2014-born mixed-breed German Shepherd came to us with five cats in a very poor physical condition. Her past is likely not easy: a large mammary tumor that hung down to the floor, painful and highly treatable teeth, and a completely neglected coat were just part of what we found when she was taken in. She has since received medical care and is slowly recovering from the hardships of the past. Although her body is gradually regaining strength, her soul needs significantly more time. She is a very reserved dog that does not immediately approach people and first wants to observe what is happening around her. Step by step, she thaws and begins to trust. She always shows herself to be friendly and nice. It is particularly beautiful to see how she now enjoys taking her rounds and curiously explores her new territory. For our senior, we wish people who give her the time she needs. She should live in a rather quiet home where there is not constant commotion and she can simply arrive at her own pace. A house with a garden where she can decide at will whether she wants to be inside or outside would of course be a "wish-you-were-here," but it is not a requirement. What she needs most are people with understanding, patience, and a big heart. People who do not expect her to become a completely different dog overnight, but are happy when she gains trust a little more each day. We wish for her to experience again how it feels to be loved, cared for, and simply be a dog - with a warm place, good care, and people who accept her as she is. If interested, please fill out the interested party form via dog. In this way, we have for an initial contact.

About Kamila

What life with Kamila looks like

Kamila is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kamila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kamila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kamila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kamila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kamila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kamila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kamila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
