Kaninchen Sakura

Female · Baby · 4 months

The name Sakura comes from Japanese culture and symbolizes the spring, renewal, as well as the transience and preciousness of life. Our giant lady represents a new beginning, just like Sakura wishes for. She came to us as a court-ordered seizure and was only a month later for the first time in her life a mother. This new responsibility brought a lot of stress and suffering: Sakura carried the RHD2 virus in her and passed it on to her puppies. Four of her five babies died within the shortest time. Left behind was her only daughter, who is now three months old and is also looking for a loving home. Mother and daughter are two curious rabbits who still have much of the world to discover. Now we wish for both of them a place where they can finally arrive and start a new chapter of their lives together. Anyone interested in the two should contact us with photos and measurements of their hutch.

About Kaninchen Sakura

What life with Kaninchen Sakura looks like

Kaninchen Sakura is a puppy/kitten rabbit waiting at Tierheim Elmshorn in Elmshorn.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaninchen Sakura, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaninchen Sakura?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Elmshorn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaninchen Sakura on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaninchen Sakura if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Elmshorn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaninchen Sakura already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaninchen Sakura isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Elmshorn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaninchen Sakura and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
