Adopt Wasabi

Pomeranian · Male · Young · 1 year

Weight: 3.2 kg Shoulder height: ~23 cm Brief Important Points: Isn't Wasabi like a little angel? An angel with a fist full of mischief behind those fluffy ears. :) Wasabi is loving and cuddly with his trusted people—unless he doesn't like a situation, then he can snap. This is mostly about food and his sleeping spot. So, you need to bring some understanding of body language to get to know him well. Forcing him to be touched by strangers directly or too quickly is a no-go. Everyone in the new home must be able to handle this to avoid any bites ending up in human hands. A muzzle might be necessary in situations like the vet. Wasabi goes about his daily life happily, confidently, and with a sense of adventure. He enjoys walks and walks well on a leash, but he can't be expected to do so without it. He sometimes ignores a recall and heads off when something more interesting catches his attention. Wasabi gets along with other animals, but he can quickly take up space and resources, potentially causing a conflict. Living with a single female dog in the animal shelter works well, and he lived with dogs in his previous home, where he was introduced as a puppy. Living together in our mixed small dog household of five didn't work out, and we had to split them up. This could be due to stress in the shelter situation, but Wasabi shows overall tendencies to test boundaries and assert control over others. Being alone for a few hours in the past and present hasn't been a problem, but he is very excited when something catches his attention. Wasabi doesn't tend to destroy things and should be house-trained, especially if he goes outside often enough. Wasabi is good in the car and has been problem-free during rides. Racially, Wasabi needs more than average grooming, and you should be prepared to have the right attitude and skill to handle it, because when it itches, the teeth come out. By the way, many small dog breeds are prone to dental issues and rapid tartar buildup. Wasabi already has a lot of tartar for his age, which we removed under anesthesia in early June. It should be expected to regularly occur in the new home and should be factored into the cost. Wasabi was rehomed by us as a puppy in 2023 and is now back with us due to private reasons. He was previously seized as a puppy from a welfare-breeding situation in a completely dirty state. If you're interested, please send us an email with your phone number and a small description of yourself. Many thanks!. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Hier muss man also schon etwas Können mitbringen, was seine Körpersprache angeht, um ihn gut einzuschätzen. About Wasabi

What life with Wasabi looks like

Wasabi is a small young adult pomeranian dog waiting at Tierheim Elmshorn in Elmshorn.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wasabi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wasabi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Elmshorn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wasabi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wasabi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Elmshorn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wasabi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wasabi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Elmshorn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wasabi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
