Adopt Kara

Rottweiler · Male · Senior · 11 years

A guy who is beginning to get a bit old. For my own boss I would go through fire and I don't just accept strange people. I'm just a very loyal big boy and I simply don't like strange hands on my head. A cuddle from my boss I can certainly appreciate though 😉 Walking on the heath or in the forest, that's something I can really enjoy. I'm actually the ideal walking dog and for example I absolutely don't pull on the leash and walk calmly looking for adventure. Other dogs I actually find all right and I just like walking with my boss. Quickly passing rushing cyclists, runners or people who suddenly stand there or rush by, that's a bit difficult for me, but with the right guidance from my boss it's perfectly manageable. But it's just something to pay attention to. Until some time ago I had the ambition to become a guard dog, but now I'd rather just lie by the heater. Naturally I will protect the house from unwanted guests, but I won't make top sport out of it though 😊 Actually I will be very happy with little. A kind boss who takes me for a walk every day, nice food, a lovely bed or cushion and above all a quiet house where not too much "strange" people come around and there are no other animals. Are you interested in me? Then my caretakers will gladly receive an email with information about among other things your experience with dogs, your living situation and what your expectations are of your new housemate. You can email to and please also mention your phone number there.

About Kara

What life with Kara looks like

Kara is a senior rottweiler dog waiting at Dierenasiel Crailo in Hilversum.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Crailo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Crailo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Crailo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
