Adopt Karl

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Karl – a true one-of-a-kind on four paws → Breed: mixed breed → Gender: male → Born: 01/2025 → Size / Weight: 45 cm / 15 kg → Neutered: yes → Vaccinated: yes → Identification: Chip → Compatible with: male dogs and female dogs → Incompatible with: N/A → Sponsorships possible: yes Description Karl is brand new at our shelter – and when we first saw him, we honestly didn’t know whether to smile, be amazed, or simply look in disbelief. Karl is just… Karl. And that's what makes him so special. He is a unique presence that you don't forget easily. But even more important is his nature: Karl is good-natured, laid-back, and a real buddy type. Someone who wins hearts immediately with his calm, friendly demeanor. Karl is pure joy for life. At about one year old, he is still a young male dog eager to discover the world – and he’s just starting out. While he is so loving, Karl still has a lot to learn. House life, daily routines, house training, car rides – all of this is new to him. He simply hasn’t experienced much yet. That's why we are looking for people who will accompany him with patience and joy, showing him step by step how life with us works. People who don’t expect perfection but are ready to grow together. Karl brings everything he needs for this: curiosity, openness, and the willingness to learn.

About Karl

What life with Karl looks like

Karl is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
