Kathi

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

At the animal shelter since: February 2024 Estimated age: born around October 2020 Estimated shoulder height: about 50 – 59 cm Get to know Kathi directly in the video here! Kathi, quiet hope behind cautious looks! This furry nose was rescued from the Romanian street and taken in by the animal shelter. She gave birth to her six puppies behind a farmhouse, where she had found a safe spot among old pieces of wood. According to the owner of the property, Kathi lived in the area for about three years and gave birth to puppies each year, which unfortunately did not survive. More information about how dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. Kathi lives together with other dogs at the animal shelter, but shows herself as very reserved and sensitive female dog. The many stimuli and daily life in the shelter seem to strongly unsettle her, so she mostly retreats to her hut and prefers to observe the events from a safe distance. Despite her great insecurity, it can be seen that Kathi attentively notices what is happening around her. She watches calmly, maintains eye contact, and shows no aggressive behavior. In the presence of people, she remains still, reacts cautiously, and tries to give herself security by keeping her distance. Kathi is a female dog who has had little chance so far to build trust in people. She needs above all time, patience, and a consistent primary caregiver who can provide her with a secure home and help her gradually get used to new situations. We are looking for Kathi a loving home in a quiet, rural environment. People who have experience and can give her time to build trust, who show her that she can be part of the family and that life can bring joy. With patience and understanding, Kathi can learn to find joy in being with people again. We wish for this furry friend people who are aware that rescue dogs have a certain story. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. That is why we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively chooses against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, please first read through the adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and spayed (exceptions are puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send our adoption team a message.

Im Tierheim seit: Februar 2024 Geschätztes Alter: geb. ca. Oktober 2020 Geschätzte Schulterhöhe: ca. 50 – 59 cm Lerne hier Kathi direkt im Video kennen! Kathi, leise Hoffnung hinter vorsichtigen Blicken!

About Kathi

What life with Kathi looks like

Kathi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kathi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kathi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kathi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kathi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kathi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kathi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kathi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
