Kato1

Mixed Breed · Male

Mixed breed. Male. Age: 2.5 years (born in spring 2024). Height: 49 cm, 19 kg. Neutered: yes. Kato was found at the edge of a village. Whether he was abandoned there or had been wandering for days, we do not know. He was hungry, very thirsty and at the end of his strength. A volunteer fed him with food and water for several days and Kato stayed because he did not know where to go. So he came to us for care and now hopes for his own home. Kato is a fine, gentle dog, very affectionate with people he knows and always ready for cuddles. With new people, he can be a bit reserved at first, but this reserve does not last long: as soon as he realizes someone is friendly to him, he thaws and shows his very loving and affectionate side. Kato loves being close to his people, loves giving kisses and enjoys all forms of attention. Nevertheless, he is not pushy and can also entertain himself when his people are not around. Good experiences have also been made with children. He does not push himself forward, but is rather gentle in his contact behavior and enjoys attention especially when he feels safe and comfortable. Indoors, Kato is very pleasant and balanced, he has learned the rules of a flat very quickly. He knows both life in an apartment and in a house with a garden and gets along well with both. He is house-trained and behaves quietly indoors. Although he certainly brings energy outside, he can relax and unwind very well indoors. He does not need constant activity, but also enjoys lying down with his people and resting. Kato can already stay alone for about six to eight hours without people and behaves quietly without destroying things or making unnecessary noise. This works both with and without other animals in his environment. Kato generally gets along well with other dogs outside. During encounters on walks and in off-leash play, he shows himself to be social and compatible. Of course, how well an encounter goes also depends on the behavior of the other dog. Indoors, Kato can sometimes react a bit jealous or possessive, for example if another dog tries to take a toy away from him. In this case, he reacts more like an offended child than aggressively, but you should still keep an eye on resources like toys initially and create clear rules. Overall, his social behavior with other dogs is good. Kato already walks nicely on a leash, although leash handling can still be improved. He knows walks and enjoys being outside. He has not been tested enough in off-leash play outside, so he should be kept on a leash there at first. Outdoors, Kato is much more active than indoors and enjoys exercise and longer walks. He needs activity and exercise, but he is not a dog that needs to be constantly exercised. Kato is familiar with car rides and masters them very well. He drives relaxed and shows no particular problems. Kato knows his name reliably and has already learned some basic commands. His training is not yet complete, but he enjoys working with him and shows enthusiasm for learning. He is very easily motivated with treats and shows a great interest in food in general. This probably also has to do with the longer time he had to go without food. He is also unproblematic with grooming: he likes brushing and bathing. Kato is a very loving, sensitive and people-oriented dog. Sometimes he needs a short moment to assess a new situation or a new person, but once he has gained trust, he shows himself to be very affectionate, loyal and affectionate. Indoors, he is pleasantly quiet, but outdoors he is active and interested in his surroundings. For Kato, we are looking for people who appreciate his gentle nature, give him some time at first and then give him all the closeness he so enjoys. If you are looking for a friendly, loving dog who enjoys going for walks but also likes to lie down with his people and be pampered, Kato could be a wonderful companion. All our dogs are of course vaccinated, dewormed and chipped with an EU pass! Please understand that we only answer serious inquiries with name, address, email address and phone number. Rasse: Mischling. About Kato1

What life with Kato1 looks like

Kato1 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Grenzenlose Notfelle e.V. in Dittelbrunn.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kato1, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kato1?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Grenzenlose Notfelle e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kato1 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kato1 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Grenzenlose Notfelle e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kato1 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kato1 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Grenzenlose Notfelle e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kato1 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
