Keks

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Keks can directly travel to his own home! His story: Sometimes trust just takes time – and Keks deserves a future full of love. This approximately 6-year-old male dog has endured a lot, knows little affection, and likely never had a real home. Brought in by the dog catchers and now suddenly finds himself in a barren pen at the public shelter, without knowing what comes next. It’s no wonder the poor fellow is still shy. And yet – despite his uncertainties, the friendly Keks clearly shows that he likes people. When spoken to, his tail begins to wag – a clear sign that he’s happy. He approaches cautiously, sniffs curiously, and already allows first touches. This is a wonderful start! With the right people by his side, who give him the freedom to grow at his own pace with patience and empathy, he will surely develop into a loyal companion who returns everything he receives with his whole heart. Keks stands about 55-60 cm tall and weighs around 30 kg, making him a great size and build. His slightly rough, rust-brown fur, pink nose, and warm eyes make him a fully handsome dog with a sympathetic presence. Like many of our mixed breeds, his lineage is unknown. Due to his appearance, a hunting dog mix cannot be ruled out. As Keks has only had limited experiences so far, he still has much to learn – from life in the house to the basic rules of cohabitation and the big dog math. With the right support, perhaps through a good dog training class, he will certainly master it all. We have not yet had the opportunity to test his compatibility with other dogs with other dogs, but he has no problems with his pen neighbors. He behaves rather calmly and neutrally towards all dogs that pass by or sit in his pen. How he would react to cats, we cannot generally test on-site. For Keks's well-being, a home in a more peaceful, rural environment, far from the hustle and bustle, with a soft, cuddly dog bed and the company of his favorite people would be perfect. Additionally, it’s important to challenge him both physically and mentally according to his needs. Long, varied walks and head and nose work would be ideal to provide him with enough mental stimulation. After a positive assessment, the wonderful Keks is ready for the adventure of adoption – are you? If you can offer him a foster home where he can prepare for his new life, please contact us! Many thanks, Viola, for taking on his nametag sponsorship. Many thanks, Lisa-Olivia H.! You support Keks with a monthly sponsorship! As of 09.07. This animal is vaccinated. Vielen Dank Lisa-Olivia H.! Du unterstützt Keks mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! Stand: 09.07.2025

About Keks

What life with Keks looks like

Keks is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Keks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Keks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Keks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Keks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Keks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Keks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Keks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
