Kelly

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Female dog KELLY, born around early 2024, shoulder height approximately 54 cm, about 18 kg, currently looking for a crate. Kelly is a young female dog who immediately catches the eye with her slim, athletic figure and alert gaze. She was found alone in a village - there was no trace of possible puppies, although much indicates that she recently became a mother. She probably had two litters so far. Kelly has a lot of energy and independence. Outside, she shows herself to be very active and has a strong prey drive. Currently, she still pulls strongly on the leash and orientates more towards her environment than towards the human. It is important to know that she currently spends most of her life in a kennel at an animal shelter and unfortunately gets little regular exercise or mental stimulation (due to the lack of volunteer helpers). With more exercise, structure and training, this behavior will very likely improve significantly and gradually subside. In the kennel, Kelly shows another side: she enjoys the company of her caregivers, calms down and reveals her affectionate side. More independent outside, more attached to her humans inside - this is how her character can be described well. We wish Kelly a home with experienced dog people who can guide her energy in the right direction. She needs clear, loving guidance, patience and an active daily routine in which she is both physically and mentally stimulated. With the right people by her side, she has the potential to develop into a wonderful companion. Who will give this great female dog the chance for a new life and grant her a fulfilling future? We do not place in very urban living areas as well as in families with small children. Please only submit an adoption request if the adoption is possible at the time mentioned in the text & you have already discussed the adoption of a new family member with your family (if applicable, other involved persons such as employer, landlord, temporary care). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their foster home or in the animal shelter in a limited, safe environment and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. In particular, puppies and young dogs are still developing their character. For a successful adaptation to a new home, they need time, patience and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and the various stimuli and grow into confident dogs.

About Kelly

What life with Kelly looks like

Kelly is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kelly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kelly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kelly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kelly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kelly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kelly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kelly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
