Kenai

Mixed Breed · Male

Kenai is searching for his Forever Home – a gentle companion with a heart full of longing. Sometimes life writes stories that touch the heart – such as the story of Kenai. The two-year-old Doggenmix male had a tough start in life. After a difficult time, he stayed behind at the animal clinic, but his current owner has taken him in with lots of love and patience. Originally, it was never intended to keep Kenai permanently – she wanted to help him in his time of need and give him a chance at a better life. But her own dogs are already older, and they struggle to cope with Kenai's youthful energy, so she is searching for a new home for him with a heavy heart. Kenai may not be a particularly large Doggenmix, but his heart is enormous. He is a dog who puts his primary caregiver above all else. With his current owner, he masters basic commands like a little model student and wants to do everything right. But this trust is a precious gift that new people must earn. He needs time to open up – but once the ice is broken, he has a loyal friend by his side for life. Unknown situations still unsettle Kenai strongly, and he approaches the new with caution. His strong bond with his person can also be a challenge: the young pup is prone to jealousy and is reluctant to share his primary caregiver. This requires consistent, loving training and people who can give him security. A home without children, cats, and small pets is a must, as Kenai is prey-driven. Outside, he is not interested in other dogs and avoids conflicts. He feels most comfortable as a solitary prince, enjoying the undivided attention of his people. A securely fenced garden would be a small paradise for him, where he can relax and observe the world. For Kenai, we are looking for people with dog experience who can bring time, patience, and a lot of love. People who can visit him multiple times, get to know him, and show him step by step that he can feel safe. By the way, in the car, he is a relaxed passenger and usually falls asleep during the ride. Kenai is a special dog with special needs. If you are ready to meet him with calmness, constancy, and a warm heart, you will gain a unique friend – a little warrior with a big soul. We believe that such special people exist. Are you one of them? Then get in touch with us!

About Kenai

What life with Kenai looks like

Kenai is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kenai, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kenai?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kenai on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kenai if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kenai already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kenai isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kenai and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
