Kiera

German Shepherd · Female · Young · 2 years

Kiera is lively, young German Shepherd who is full of charm and brimming with personality. She is looking for an active home that can provide her with plenty of exercise and ongoing training. Kiera loves getting out on long walks to explore her surroundings. She also enjoys having the opportunity to burn off energy in our paddocks where she can stretch her legs and enjoy some freedom. Kiera thrives when she has both physical exercise and mental stimulation, making her a good companion for owners who enjoy spending time outdoors. She has particularly enjoyed enrichment activities during her time in our care. She has taken part in search work and scent trails, which have helped keep her busy mind occupied. New owners may wish to continue these activities at home as it's a great way to keep her mind engaged and fulfilled. She also enjoys using slow feeders at mealtimes and has shown a real enthusiasm for destruction boxes. Kiera has shown herself to be an excitable and friendly girl when meeting new people. Her enthusiasm can make her a little bouncy at first, and she may jump up in greeting. Once she has settled, she really enjoys a calm, gentle fuss, or she’s just as happy to chase after a soft toy if one is offered. Kiera has shown playful behaviours around other dogs and enjoys social interaction. However, she can struggle to read other dogs, becoming overly enthusiastic during play and finding it difficult to recognise when they’ve had enough. As a result, Kiera is looking for a home where she will be the only dog, allowing her owners to focus on her training and social development. Once settled, her new family should continue working on her social skills through carefully managed introductions. Owners should feel confident reading her body language and helping Kiera learn appropriate social interactions. Keeping her on lead during introductions and around unfamiliar dogs will help her understand that she does not need to greet every dog she sees while out walking. A home with a secure private garden is essential for Kiera. This will provide her with a safe space to enjoy off-lead time, burn off energy, and relax between adventures. Potential owners would need to speak to a Battersea vet prior to rehoming. For owners who understand the needs of a young, intelligent, and active Shepherd breed, Kiera will be an engaging companion who is always eager to learn and explore the world by their side. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Kiera you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest. We ask every customer to first complete our online rehoming application form, so if you have not filled in our form yet you can find the details on how to do so here;

About Kiera

What life with Kiera looks like

Kiera is a large young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiera, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiera?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiera on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiera if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kiera already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiera isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiera and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
