Kiko

Beagle · Male · Young · 3 years

Kiko is a Beagle male born in March 2023, who was given up by his owner at the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. Before his adoption, he will be neutered. He has an extremely friendly, open nature and greets all people warmly. His cheerfulness is infectious, he is very curious and adventurous. Petting should naturally be part of the daily program, as well as long walks in nature. He is a clever boy who learns quickly, but due to his breed, he brings a certain stubbornness. Kiko would be a lovely family dog, with which families with older and understanding children would also have great fun. He gets along great with females and plays with them, but with other males, sympathy decides. Therefore, we recommend him as a second dog to a female dog. How he reacts to cats is not known. He wants loving and active people who have enough free time, educate him consistently and live either in the countryside or on the outskirts of the city. Experience in dog keeping should already exist. The male has a shoulder height of 42 cm and weighs 16 kg.

About Kiko

What life with Kiko looks like

Kiko is a medium-sized young adult beagle dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kiko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
