Kim H

Female · Adult · 4 years

Hello, Kim H. here. I'm quite a sight with my bare chest, I've taken off my nice jacket, so to speak. People found me outside in my bare skin and luckily brought me to the shelter. Now I'm happy and warm and dry, and my down is slowly coming back. I'm also allowed to look for a new home, which I'm really looking forward to. I regularly call out to the other parrots here at the shelter, but I'm not allowed to live with them yet because of my bare skin. In my new home, I'd like to live with my own kind. Being alone is lonely and that gives a lot of stress. I'm not a tame bird, I'd rather be a bit wilder hahaha. Who, oh who, has a warm home for me?

NL·Show original

Hallootjes, Kim H. hier.

About Kim H

What life with Kim H looks like

Kim H is a adult bird waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kim H, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kim H?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kim H on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kim H if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kim H already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kim H isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kim H and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
