Kimba

German Shepherd · Female · Senior · 13 years

Kimba – the fit retiree Breed: German Shepherd Color: Brown-black Age: 22.06.2013 Sex: female Neutered: no Properties: Hello everyone, my name is Kimba (26 kg / SH: approx. 60 cm). I would like to introduce myself, because I am looking for a loving home where I can spend my twilight years in peace and security. Unfortunately, my previous owner could no longer care for me, and so I ended up at the animal shelter. Despite my considerable age, I am still very fit and active and am by no means old iron. I still enjoy taking trips with my humans and enjoying long walks. I am a witty female dog and go very openly to people. I enjoy all attention and would love to be with my humans all the time. Therefore, I should not have to be left alone too often or for too long. I have already proven myself as a top office companion, which is why this would also be conceivable. Unfortunately, my age also brings one or two "precursors" with it. I don't hear as well anymore and can sometimes be a bit confused. I hope for a lot of understanding, patience and loving attention. In addition, a tumor was removed from me, in which a recurrence is not excluded. Otherwise, I am fit and don't let me notice anything of all this. If you would like further information about my health status, please inform my caregivers about it. For my new home, I wish a quiet, age-appropriate apartment/house without many stairs, preferably with direct access to a garden. Small children should not live there - but people who have a lot of time for me. I would like to enjoy my new home as a single princess and therefore wish for a household where I have my people all to myself - without other dogs or other animals such as cats. I don't necessarily need other dogs. Breed-typically, I am an attentive and vigilant lady and also bring a good portion of hunting instinct with me. My new people should be aware that I have special needs due to my age and it takes some awareness in dealing with me. I'm behind the hectic and bustle - now I wish for a quiet place where I can be loved and come to rest. If you would like to lovingly accompany my last path, then please fill out the application form. Thank you and hopefully until soon! Your Kimba Country of origin (where the dog is currently located): Switzerland Breed country: Hungary

About Kimba

What life with Kimba looks like

Kimba is a medium-sized senior german shepherd dog waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kimba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kimba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kimba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kimba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kimba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kimba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kimba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
