Kira

Female

Kira Breed Kanaan Mix Gender Female Born Ca. 05.2025 In the animal shelter since 12.2025 Special Kira was found hitched to a highway, so we unfortunately do not know her backstory. What we can say, however, is that Kira wishes for a loving home soon where she can receive clear structures and rules. She shows herself to be age-appropriate playful, curious, very cuddly, and very attached to her people. (With strangers, she needs a little time to get to know them, but the ice usually breaks quite quickly). Although she has grown a bit too big for it, Kira loves nothing more than climbing onto the lap of her trusted people and snuggling. For her young age, Kira already comes with a strong will. Additionally, she is really smart and likes to test how far she can go. To achieve her goals, she uses various strategies: flipping over, kicking, screaming, jumping, or snatching. Even though Kira does not show aggression towards her trusted people, there can be the occasional bruise. Kira then oscillates between "Drama Queen" and "Class Clown." When we (often together with our dog training classes) practice with Kira how a young female dog should behave, she usually has a muzzle on. Kira gets along well with fellow animals, she loves company and joint play. We do not see Kira as a typical family dog; children should ideally be in their teenage years. Experience with more challenging, hyper dogs should definitely be present. Training Kira will require some energy, and regular attendance at dog training classes should definitely be planned. It is important to set boundaries for Kira from the start, challenging her while also giving her a break. We are convinced that Kira will then develop into a wonderful, attached female dog and learn to orient herself to the rules set for her. A confident second dog could help her in this. If you are interested in one of our dogs, please send an email and share a few things that are interesting for a dog placement: experiences with dogs; living situation; are there children and/or other animals in the household; how long must the dog be left alone during the day. Please provide a phone number for follow-up questions.

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is a adult dog waiting at Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg in Homburg/Saar.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ria-Nickel-Tierheim Homburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
