Kirby

Beagle · Male · Young · 3 years

Kirby is a Beagle male born in March 2023, who was given up by his owner at the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. Before his adoption, he will be neutered. He is a lovable and exceptionally friendly young dog with a sunny disposition. He enjoys attention, shows interest in everything and is full of life. His serious facial expression is deceptive, as he has a mischievous streak and inherited a certain stubbornness from his ancestors. Nevertheless, he is an intelligent young dog who learns quickly and can be easily motivated with treats. He will certainly be a wonderful companion on long walks in nature. Kirby is well suited as a family dog and would certainly be an asset to families with older, understanding children. He gets along well with female dogs and plays with them, but with other males, it depends on their compatibility. Therefore, we recommend him as a second dog to a female dog. It is not known how he reacts to cats. He wants loving and active people who have enough free time, can educate him consistently and live either in the countryside or on the outskirts of town. Experience in dog ownership should already be available. The male has a shoulder height of 42 cm and weighs 16 kg.

About Kirby

What life with Kirby looks like

Kirby is a medium-sized young adult beagle dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kirby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kirby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kirby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kirby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kirby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kirby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kirby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
