Klaus &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Klaus is a young (and very handsome!) male Galgo dog, about eight months old (as of 01/26), and he would surely have some exciting stories to tell. Alone and on his own, he wandered through the streets—unexperienced and constantly in danger from traffic, other strays, and especially neighbors—searching for something edible in garbage bins and always trying to avoid people. But when the animal welfare workers from Refugio Kimba discovered him, Klaus immediately showed how much hope and trust are within him: He ran directly to his rescuers and willingly allowed himself to be taken in. Since his intake into the animal shelter, Klaus has developed into a real favorite. He is exceptionally social, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and loves to play with them. Klaus is now cuddly and enjoys the company of people; his past has not dimmed his cheerful disposition, and he finds it simply lovely to be with friends—no matter how many legs they have. Galgos are Spanish greyhounds known for their extraordinary gentleness and sensitive nature. They are considered particularly friendly and calm dogs, distinguished by their reserve and affectionate manner. Galgos are very social, both with other animals and with people, and develop a close bond with their family. Despite their athletic appearance, they are usually relaxed at home and enjoy long cuddling sessions just as much as walks. The gentle nature of Galgos makes them ideal companions for families looking for a quiet but active dog. They are curious, intelligent, and adaptable, but also require sufficient exercise and mental stimulation. A garden where he could really run and play would be a dream for Klaus—he loves to run and play, but he also understands a lot about regeneration and extended naps. For Klaus, we wish for an active, cheerful family that meets him with patience and love and gives him the security he deserves. A home with a garden would be ideal so that Klaus can follow his exercise needs. He is happy to have other dogs in the household because playing and frolicking together brings him great joy. Klaus is curious about life and ready to experience many adventures with his new family.

DE·Show original

About Klaus &#8211

What life with Klaus &#8211 looks like

Klaus &#8211 is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Klaus &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Klaus &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Klaus &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Klaus &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Klaus &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Klaus &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Klaus &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
