Klausi

Male · Adult · 7 years

Klausi is a magnificent specimen of a tomcat. He arrived as a found cat and was neither neutered nor microchipped. At his place of discovery, he lived with many other cats, but whether he will tolerate fellow animals long-term remains to be seen. Unlike most other cats from his former group of strays, Klausi has quickly thawed out. Suddenly, he emerged from his shell and showed us his cuddly side. Kissing and cuddling are so enjoyable for Klausi that he sometimes overdoes it and literally (over)snapshots. We don’t believe he means any harm—he is easily unsettled and then gets scared by his own bravery. He is, after all, a big sensitive soul who loudly and noisily complains when changes occur. With treats, he is fortunately easy to appease. While our Klausi is generally good-natured, we do not see him as a suitable match for cat beginners or children. He must be earned and slowly gain more security before he can truly settle in. Then, his dream-kitten potential will be evident. Due to his clingy tendencies, Klausi has unfortunately already shown jealous behavior. He was also sometimes aggressive towards other cats, so we are placing him as a single cat. He wants his people all to himself. Unfortunately, a heart murmur was detected in Klausi, and an ultrasound revealed minor changes that do not currently require medication. A specialist examination should take place in mid/end 2026. After a longer period of getting used to his new environment, it would be wonderful if Klausi could relax in his own garden. He is probably not wild anymore— he just prefers a more comfortable setting. This animal has a history of biting.

DE·Show original

About Klausi

What life with Klausi looks like

Klausi is a large adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Klausi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Klausi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Klausi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Klausi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Klausi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Klausi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Klausi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
