adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Koa has found a home! His story: Our little polar bear Koa is searching for his Forever Family! Koa had the good fortune to travel to his foster home in early June. Here, he is learning the first rules and what life in a loving family is like. At first, Koa is still shy and shows more reticence in new situations, but once he builds trust, he comes out of his shell more and more. Then, he is a typical little puppy who loves to play, run around, and explore his environment. In a familiar environment, he is a lively and cheerful little dog. He is always friendly to people and also gets along well with his fellow animals. We are looking for a family for Koa where he is accepted as a full-fledged family member. He is still so small and there is so much for him to experience and discover. Whether excursions to the beach or the mountains, a thorough Sunday walk through the woods, or a visit to an appropriate dog playgroup – Koa looks forward to experiencing all these activities with his new Forever Family. Koa is currently around 4.5 months old and will grow to be at most medium-sized. His new family should be aware that Koa does not yet know what life in a loving family is like. He still needs to learn the whole puppy ABC and puberty is in full swing. Here, he needs people who can approach him with love and patience, and may need to attend some positively working dog training classes with him and forgive him one or two mishaps. Leash walking, house training, and being left alone are still foreign words to him. During puberty, he will certainly test boundaries and perhaps even forget some things he has learned. But once this phase is overcome, Koa will definitely be a great lifelong partner. Koa is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings an EU pet passport with him and can be adopted after a positive foster home trial. We would be very happy to have a foster home for the sweet man! Who will give him a loving Forever Home? Many thanks to Anja! You gave Koa his name. As of: 03.06.

Vielen Dank an Anja! Du hast Koa seinen Namen geschenkt. About Koa

What life with Koa looks like

Koa is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
