adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Koa has found his people! His story: The siblings Argos, Avani, Koa, Nerea, Nino, Rayla, and Toni wandered with their mother Maila—a ca. 46cm (17kg) mixed-breed female dog—through a deserted area. Two of the puppies had fallen into an old well. Fortunately, a kindhearted girl rescued them. The seven siblings and their mother are now in safety under the care of an on-site animal rescuer. There, they are being nourished and gently accustomed to interacting with humans. With his white-ringed snout and his dark fur with brown shading and white markings, Koa looks at the world with a gentle gaze. There is so much to discover and learn! This young puppy only knows the loving care of his mother and the warm engagement of the animal welfare workers—life as a dog in a family must be taught to him. Whether house training, gently exploring the world on a leash, meeting children, fellow animals, and other creatures, or overcoming everyday challenges and good behavior—this dreamy Koa would like to learn all of this from his family. Even driving and eventually being left alone step by step are on his schedule—with much patience and perhaps together with a positively supportive dog training class or trainers who have experience with animal protection dogs from abroad, his family can lead him into all of this knowledge and earn his trust. And then puberty suddenly stands at the door, and all that has been learned and sometimes even the good manners are like carried away by the wind! But also this nerve-wracking time stands Koa's family through with him, guiding him lovingly and consistently through this life phase—and has a fantastic companion by their side for life! If one can judge puppies a few weeks old, Koa seems to be a gentle, more reserved (but more open to people) male dog who curiously explores the world. As we do not know the father of the puppies, we cannot rule out that Koa carries a small percentage of herding dog genes. These dogs are sometimes vigilant and self-assured—if you meet them confidently, wisely, and with care, these exceptionally sensitive dogs enjoy family life very much and become characterful companions. Koa is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He will be available for adoption after a positive evaluation. If you would like to give Koa a home in security, please contact us. We thank the godmother Alexa for giving Koa his name and thus an identity. As of: 19.11.

Stand: 19.11.2024

About Koa

What life with Koa looks like

Koa is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
