Kratzer

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

EKH Kratzer was rehomed to understanding people in Leipzig in June 2015. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Kratzer. I am male, neutered and born in 2014. I have been waiting for a new home since November 2014. This is what my caretakers say about me: Kratzer is a kind, affectionate, but cautious tomcat who patiently waits for his new life. Most of the time in the background, this initially reserved young tomcat is often overlooked. He needs some time to get used to visitors and then comes out cautiously. Even then, he usually needs quieter moments before finally cuddling, which he really enjoys. Despite his age, he is not overly active, and gets along very well with his fellow animals. Kratzer (who got his name because of a scratch) would like to move to a quiet home. If there are children, they should have understanding and patience at the beginning. Then children would not be a problem. Kratzer does not absolutely need free range, but if possible, he would also like to use it. He is content and adaptable and a true treasure. Who would like to give the reserved little furball with a white tail tip the chance to unfold his full character in a safe environment? We would be happy if Kratzer could finally take over his own territory...

About Kratzer

What life with Kratzer looks like

Kratzer is a medium-sized senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kratzer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kratzer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kratzer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kratzer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kratzer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kratzer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kratzer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
