KRUK

Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Kruk ended up at the shelter in an unusual way—someone who found him brought him there. He was wearing a harness with a phone number attached, so it seemed he’d soon be back home. Unfortunately, the person who answered the call said their dog was already safe with them and had no idea what was going on. That’s how Kruk became a resident of the Krakow shelter. He was extremely emaciated—his ribs were easily visible. He looked like a shadow of a dog, not a fully healthy four-legged friend. At first, he was also very distrustful. The proximity of humans and outstretched hands clearly stressed him out. When it came time to put on his harness, he’d freeze in tension, so for safety’s sake, he wore it constantly. Over time, thanks to patient work and regular walks, he began making progress. After a few months, he learned to calmly accept putting on his harness, tolerates gentle touch, and is increasingly comfortable closing the distance with people he knows. He can even climb onto his owner’s lap, asking for a treat—and no longer panics and runs away at the sight of an outstretched hand. The harness isn’t accidental; when Kruk goes for a walk, he races ahead like a speeding locomotive. He needs a long leash, ideally over ten meters long, and an owner who’s in good physical shape. Pulling on the collar could lead to neck injuries, so we chose a safer solution. Additionally, he can sometimes react aggressively toward certain dogs, so proper precautions are essential. This is definitely not a dog for the city or apartment complexes. The hustle and bustle and large number of stimuli would be too overwhelming for him. He can’t live with children or other animals—there have been instances of aggressive behavior at the shelter. He needs an exceptionally patient, calm home that will allow him to build a relationship at his own pace and surround him with kindness. Adopting Kruk will be a process—it’ll require numerous exploratory walks and time for you both to get to know each other. But if you’re persistent, enjoy working with dogs, and find satisfaction in slowly earning their trust, Kruk will happily join you on a long hike through meadows—best in comfortable shoes. Kruk trafił do schroniska w nietypowy sposób – przywiozła go osoba, która go znalazła. Bliskość człowieka i wyciągane w jego stronę ręce wyraźnie go stresowały. Najlepiej w wygodnych butach. Kontakt do wolontariuszki: 690 842 908

About KRUK

What life with KRUK looks like

KRUK is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting KRUK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KRUK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KRUK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KRUK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KRUK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KRUK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know KRUK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
