KYRA

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

Kyra is a calm, gentle, enthusiastic but uncertain female Border Collie. She has changed her behavior significantly since the youngest of the girls arrived, now 3 years ago. Kyra is now unpredictable in her actions towards children. She finds them too active and retreats to the hallway or barn when the children are/come home. Her owners no longer trust Kyra and, to prevent the situation from worsening, BorderLineCollie has been asked to find her a suitable new home. The owners indicate that when the children are not at home, Kyra is calm and relaxed and often plays independently (in the garden). Her history: Kyra arrived at the owners' home at the age of 10 weeks. She spent several years at dog school and also practiced agility in the past. She was tested for sheep but is not interested. Kyra can stay home alone for several hours; she is not used to the crate; she enjoys car rides; she does not like fireworks on New Year's Eve and other loud noises. It should be noted that Kyra reacts quite strongly to other dogs during walks. The person who made the home visit for BLC was well received by Kyra; she came to ask for attention and cuddles, but then went to bed in the hallway. A video showed that Kyra emits many stress signals (ears back, lips lifted, teeth shown) when the children are there. She then "paralyzes" herself, so to speak. Due to the circumstances, Kyra now has too little stimulation and exercise. The ideal home: BLC is looking for adopters who are willing to work with Kyra on activities in which she can expend energy, who know the Border Collie breed and - to be clear - where there are not many children passing through the house.

About KYRA

What life with KYRA looks like

KYRA is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Border Line Collie in borderlinecollie.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting KYRA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KYRA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Line Collie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KYRA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KYRA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Border Line Collie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is KYRA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KYRA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Line Collie early rather than rehoming privately; they know KYRA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
