Kyra

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

female Abgabetier/Freigang Born 14.05.2024 EKH neutered yes / [] no In the animal shelter since 18.04.2026 Kyra We tested every cat with a quick test for FIV („Cat AIDS“, more info here!) and FeLV („Cat Leukemia“, more info here) and clarified the status. We inform here about the risk of FIP („Belly Inflammation“). Kyra was dropped off at an animal clinic in an emergency, as she had birth complications. One of the babies was unfortunately already dead in the womb, but Kyra could be saved through surgery. Since her owners could not afford the care, Kyra was transferred to us during the emergency treatment. She has recovered well from everything and is now looking for a nice, responsible, and loving home through us. Kyra is a perfect family cat, loving, curious, friendly, enjoys attention, likes to sleep in the same bed, and is generally very affectionate and loves attention and cuddles. Kyra knows living with children and gets along with them, but of course, she doesn't want it to be too wild around her. She has already lived with other cats and formed friendships, she is playful, curious, and relaxed in contact. We could present Kyra well as both a second cat in a suitable company and as a single cat that gets a lot of attention. She is also familiar with dogs and has behaved neutrally. She would like to be able to have a freer run in a cat-friendly environment after sufficient acclimatization. At our shelter, Kyra had a major dental procedure. Since she – like about 50% of all cats! – shows symptoms of FORL (Resorptive Lesions, a gum disease), this will also be a topic in the future. We wish Kyra very much that she finds a nice home soon that gives her lots of love! (As of 25.05.2026) (Click on the images to see them in full size!) The description gives the current status, but we reserve the right to make changes or new assessments. It can always happen that an animal shows or develops differently due to changing circumstances both at the animal shelter and in the new home. This animal was surrendered to the shelter. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Kyra

What life with Kyra looks like

Kyra is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kyra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kyra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kyra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kyra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kyra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kyra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kyra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
