Adopt La brutta storia di Sem e Luna

Mixed Breed · Unknown

They entered the animal shelter just a few weeks ago following a rescue from a situation of severe neglect. Stationed in an environment full of feces and urine, left completely alone for most of the time, overfed and poorly fed, not cared for, and infested with dermatitis over much of their bodies, Luna and Sem spent a long period of their lives in a condition of true mistreatment, without family members or neighbors of the owner intervening to end this shameful confinement. An indifference that smothered any compassion: at the moment the two dogs were taken from the house, someone among the neighbors even applauded sarcastically and arrogantly for being rid of two beings that disturbed them with the persistent barking of those who had no other way to ask for help. Luna and Sem lived with people who perhaps thought and said they loved them, but who actually made them suffer. Luna was caused obesity, which undoubtedly constitutes true mistreatment: when she was rescued, she could not even walk, due to her weight and the condition of her nails (allowed to grow excessively by several centimeters) and her paws, while the dermatological lesions on various parts of her body showed raw flesh. Sem also suffered from the same type of dermatitis, most likely caused by poor nutrition and the long stay in rooms filled with excrement and urine. Both have been treated and are still undergoing medical treatments. Luna is slowly regaining movement, and the diet she is following will allow her to lose some weight, but some damage to her joints and metabolism will be permanent. As for Sem, what is most striking is the deep sadness that comes through every expression, a condition that just a few weeks of attention and care could certainly not have relieved. Sem and Luna are living beings to whom humanity should at least repay part of the miserable existence they have so far experienced. And adoption would be the best way to start.

About La brutta storia di Sem e Luna

What life with La brutta storia di Sem e Luna looks like

La brutta storia di Sem e Luna is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Associazione Onlus Apaca in Italy.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting La brutta storia di Sem e Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about La brutta storia di Sem e Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associazione Onlus Apaca handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw La brutta storia di Sem e Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt La brutta storia di Sem e Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associazione Onlus Apaca will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is La brutta storia di Sem e Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if La brutta storia di Sem e Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associazione Onlus Apaca early rather than rehoming privately; they know La brutta storia di Sem e Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
