Laika

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 8 years

Laika - her most beautiful chapter is now beginning. Laika is 8 years old, a kind mixed breed dog and very new at the Spanish animal shelter. Unfortunately, we do not know much about her past. But what we can see and feel from the very first moment: Laika is a small treasure on four paws. She shows herself to be very loving, friendly and open from the start. Laika gently approaches people, meets other dogs kindly and calmly, and overall appears balanced and approachable. A dog that likes closeness without being pushy. One whose gaze directly hits the heart. A dog of her age should not end up in an animal shelter. Laika does not belong behind bars, but in a home - on a soft bed, on nice walks, in a life with attention, structure and security. As a rescue dog, she of course brings her little suitcase with her. Perhaps she still needs to learn or relearn something. But she appears open, ready and absolutely accessible. With loving support, some training and shared time, we see in Laika a wonderful family dog who has a lot more to give. For Laika, we wish a home where she is loved, taken seriously and appropriately supported for her age - cozy but regular walks, a bit of mental work, attention, security and lots of heart. Who will give this gentle dog the chance to spend her golden years not in the animal shelter, but in security? Then please contact her assigned adoption officer. Laika would also be grateful for a foster home. Here goes Laika's video.

About Laika

What life with Laika looks like

Laika is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Laika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Laika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Laika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Laika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Laika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Laika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Laika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
