Lars

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Emergency – mixed breed Lars is desperately seeking a home. Lars originally came from Romania, then moved to Germany and lived for two years with a family in East Frisia before they unfortunately had to give him up due to changed working conditions. For a long time, he has been waiting in a dog shelter. Lars is a curious, interested young male dog and has already learned a lot. With his current trusted people, Lars is very cuddly, playful, and reliably responds to signals. He also gets along well with his dog friend in the yard, who they play with very much. With other male dogs, he often gets along less well. On the go, Lars still often has a high level of excitement and pulls on the leash accordingly. Therefore, a rural environment, many breaks, and a calm, loving lead are important. With dog and human encounters on walks, Lars now manages quite well. Lars finds strangers approaching him initially eerie. Therefore, several meetings are necessary to get to know Lars as he truly is – friendly, cuddly, and a playful chatterbox. At first, he reacts fearfully, anxiously, and barks. He also does this during visits, which is why visits in the new home should be carefully accompanied. Lars is not perfect – who is? But he is a great dog with many wonderful sides. With the right patient and empathetic people by his side, he will become an excellent companion. Ideal for Lars would be sporty people who are happy to challenge him physically and mentally and ideally also have an enclosed garden. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Lars

What life with Lars looks like

Lars is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lars, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lars?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lars on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lars if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lars already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lars isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lars and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
