Lars

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

In the animal shelter since: April 2026 Estimated age: born around April 2024 Estimated shoulder height: approx. 40 – 49 cm Get to know Lars directly in the video! Attention, attention! Lars wants to be picked up from the animal shelter! Lars's story began with a large dose of luck: He was found in a small town near our partner animal shelter in April 2026, because someone asked us to find a home for Lars. The medium-sized, gentle male dog had no home and was living on the street. However, an animal-loving man took care of him, even building him a doghouse so he wouldn't have to sleep unprotected on the roadside. We were then asked for help and took Lars into the animal shelter, where he is now urgently looking for his own family. For more information on how the dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions, see our Animal Welfare FAQ. The sweet Lars shares his kennel with female dog Felice. Both do not interact much with each other, and even on the playground, when Lars meets a strange male dog, he behaves neutrally. We experience Lars in the animal shelter as a gentle, unobtrusive dog who moves leisurely through the kennel or the run. He is friendly to people, allows himself to be petted, and is interested in environmental sounds, but also goes alone to his doghouse and calmly observes what is happening around him from there. By the way, the name Lars can be translated as "the winner" – to complete his victory, only you are missing. Whoever is looking for a medium-sized dog with a gentle character may have found their "Pawfect Match" with Lars. Of course, we can never predict in the animal shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany, as they all have a certain history behind them. Therefore, a dog like Lars also needs people in his home who bring patience, perseverance, and good will. We could imagine Lars as a second dog, even if he probably doesn't necessarily need company. Adequate exercise, trust-building training, and enough space to sniff around would certainly make our Lars very happy. When you adopt instead of buy, you not only give an animal a second chance but also actively stand against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered before travel arrangements (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to send a message to our adoption team.

Im Tierheim seit: April 2026 Geschätztes Alter: geb. ca. April 2024 Geschätzte Schulterhöhe: ca. 40 – 49 cm Lerne hier Lars direkt im Video kennen! Achtung, Achtung!

About Lars

What life with Lars looks like

Lars is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lars, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lars?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lars on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lars if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lars already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lars isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lars and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
