Adopt Lea

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 15 years

Lea was handed over to the "Offenen animal shelter" in Sisterea along with her friend Lord after their owner was hospitalized. Lea and her friend Lord arrived in Germany on December 7, 2024, and are now desperately looking for a forever home. The cheerful Lea with button eyes is very affectionate and modest. She gets along well with everyone. With her calm and balanced nature, she is grateful for any small attention and cuddles. She is currently living in a foster home in Lauenau and therefore knows a human household. She is quite independent and would like to be able to move freely around the house and garden. She gets along with dogs, cats, and children if she has enough time to get to know them. Lea is house-trained and can stay alone at home without any issues. She needs understanding people who do not want to go on long walks with her, a home without stairs, and free access to the garden. Lea is a wonderful, lovable female dog that one would gladly have around. Lea was born early in 2011 and is 47 cm tall. German veterinarians estimate her to be two years younger. She has been at the animal shelter since January 2023, where she received vaccinations, was treated for parasites, and was spayed. She already had a chip. Before her travel arrangements, she also had a blood test for the common travel diseases, which came back negative. Lea arrived in Germany on December 7, 2024. She lives in a foster home in Lauenau. Please give this sweet female dog a chance and call: 05071 – 4126 or ____. Video of Lea:. This animal is vaccinated.

About Lea

What life with Lea looks like

Lea is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at ITV Grenzenlos e.V. in Essel.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ITV Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ITV Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ITV Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
