Leandro

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

An unplanned litter and the carelessness of the parent animals' owners have led to these nine small mixed-breed puppies ending up at the Melampo animal shelter. They are now looking for responsible people who would like to give them a loving and safe home for their whole lives. For some of the puppies, a possible breed background is already a little easier to see: Yumi, for example, is reminiscent of a Husky, and Siro of a Water Dog. Some of the black puppies may also show similar features, while Fine is reminiscent of a Golden Retriever/Labrador, and so are the beige-colored puppies. However, since we do not know the parent animals and the puppies are still very young, we cannot reliably predict how they will develop physically and what they will look like as adult dogs. All nine puppies are healthy. However, because of their young age and because they have to grow up without their mother, they are particularly vulnerable. A shelter is an unfamiliar and stressful environment for such small puppies and carries health risks. For this reason, they are being given veterinary care and vaccinated as quickly as possible. In terms of character, the little ones have shown their best side so far: they are friendly, active, playful, and people-oriented. Toward the volunteers they are very sweet and cuddly, and they enjoy the attention and closeness. For the little ones, we wish for responsible and well-prepared homes. A puppy means not only joy, but also a great deal of time, patience, training, and responsibility. Especially in the first months, puppies need intensive care, lots of patience, and loving training. In return, you get the chance to accompany a dog from the very beginning. Anyone who decides on one of these puppies should therefore be aware that acquiring a dog is a long-term decision and that an animal means responsibility for its entire life. The new owners commit to neutering/sterilizing the puppies once the right time has come.

About Leandro

What life with Leandro looks like

Leandro is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leandro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leandro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leandro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leandro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Leandro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leandro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leandro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
