adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Leila was locally rehomed! Her story: Who can resist those stunning, steel-blue eyes? Leilas former owners unfortunately already could not. The sweet cat was found together with a tomcat simply abandoned in front of a forest in a car. Unfortunately, the license plate could no longer be recognized, but the two had great luck and quickly found their way into a foster home in Romania. Unfortunately, Leila brought some health issues with her. The virus FIP broke out in her, which required an 84-day-long treatment. But she is a small fighter and bravely endured this time as well. She responded well to the treatment, is symptom-free, and is packed and ready for her travel arrangements. As if the friendly velvet paw had not been punished enough, a small tumor was also found. This was, however, removed without complications. Additionally, Leila is already missing a few teeth. Although Leila has already endured much, she is a very friendly and open cat. Currently, she is kept in individual housing. If her future favorite humans can spend a lot of time with her, this can also remain the case. Should there already be fellow animals, that would also be no problem, because our Leila is very friendly towards other cats. Here, a slow introduction with a lot of patience is particularly important. Leila travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She also has an EU pet passport in her luggage and can travel after a positive Leila has more than earned a home where she will be loved and experience how beautiful a cat life can be. Would you like to give her this cuddle spot? We are very happy to hear from you. Many thanks, Michaela M., for naming Leila. Date: 29.07.

Vielen Dank Michaela M., du hast Leila ihren Namen geschenkt. Stand: 29.07.2023

About Leila

What life with Leila looks like

Leila is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
