Lemmy

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Lemmy was rehomed by the animal shelter Snoopy. Please contact exclusively here: Gaby Haag, phone or Mrs. Haag has German citizenship, with her you can communicate very well. He is still a playful child despite his size. Lemmy grew up in a family with a small child, dogs and cats and is very compatible with other dogs. He is more energetic than Boba and loves wilder games. Lemmy is also a Sarplaninac mix, meaning he belongs to a herding breed that is extremely loyal and very protective. They are attentive watch dogs and need an environment that meets their mental and physical needs. They are also very affectionate and therefore need family connection. Because they show protective instincts towards their family, they require dog-experienced people who can consistently and firmly lead them, because they only obey instructions if they understand their purpose. Long walks and "thinking tasks" are a must. At home, the Sarplaninac is a calm and balanced animal and has no problem being alone for a longer period of time. However, physical and mental stimulation must be provided. He loves life outdoors, keeping him in cramped conditions is not the right environment. The desire for movement of the Sarplaninac is great, therefore they are not suitable for keeping in an apartment, a house/farm with a large yard would be ideal. All herding dogs are free-spirited and independent dogs, this should be considered when keeping them. Of course, independence and love of freedom does not mean that the dog can do whatever it wants, but rather that you should accommodate it as much as possible, but also set its limits.

About Lemmy

What life with Lemmy looks like

Lemmy is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lemmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lemmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lemmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lemmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lemmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lemmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lemmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
