Leo

Male · Young · 2 years

Leo hasn't had the best start to life, he's had a couple of homes and been kept outside for a lot of it, none of which was his fault. He has wonky legs but this doesn't stop him from being the ultimate Spaniel, and he's going to need a family that can keep up! Leo loves to swim and be outside, he's a very typical Springer and strong on his lead. His nose is usually to the ground, taking everything in. It's lovely to see him being a proper dog out of his kennel but some of the day to day centre noises he finds quite worrying. He hasn't been exposed to much so it would be good for him if his family take things at his pace whilst he's settling in. Leo loves to meet people so it's just a case of him getting used to household noises. He's also good with other dogs but isn't sure how to interact due to his lack of confidence, so he's best as the only dog at home for now, but he has potential to share a home in the future. Leo can live with upper primary aged children but needs to be the only pet at present as he lacks confidence around others. He may need help with house training and would like a family where there is someone around for him most of the time. Leo's front legs are bowed and he is highly likely to develop arthritis as he gets older, so his adopters must be prepared for this and ongoing pain relief costs.

About Leo

What life with Leo looks like

Leo is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
