LEOPOLD

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 6 years

Our unneutered German Shepherd Leopold came to our shelter due to personal reasons of his previous owner. He was born in October 2020 and currently weighs 37 kg with a shoulder height of around 63 cm. Leopold is a very people-oriented, affectionate and cuddly male who enjoys the proximity of his caregivers. He encounters people extremely friendly and open and can also stay alone for some time without problems. We are looking for a home for Leopold with dog-experienced people who can lead him consistently, confidently and fairly. He would feel particularly comfortable in a quiet residential area, as he is much more relaxed in less stimulating environments. Leopold is generally compatible with other dogs, but needs good guidance and clear leadership from his people. If he lacks this orientation, he develops a pronounced leash aggression and shows very antisocial behavior towards his peers. With the right guidance, however, his behavior can be better controlled. Leopold wants people who enjoy working with him, giving him security and promoting his strengths. With a clear structure and reliable caregivers, he is a loyal and loving companion. Leopold has a mild heart problem that currently requires no medication. However, regular veterinary check-ups are important to keep an eye on the development. He also suffers from recurring, so far unexplained skin problems that may require further veterinary clarification and treatment. In addition, he has hip problems, which is why adapted movement and a healthy body weight should be taken into account. His future owners should be aware that veterinary care may be required in the future.

-0Fax: 089/90 73 20E-Mail

About LEOPOLD

What life with LEOPOLD looks like

LEOPOLD is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierschutzverein München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting LEOPOLD, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about LEOPOLD?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein München handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw LEOPOLD on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt LEOPOLD if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein München will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is LEOPOLD already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if LEOPOLD isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein München early rather than rehoming privately; they know LEOPOLD and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
