Leyla

Chihuahua · Female · Adult · 7 years

Leyla is a loving American Bully mix dog, born on December 6th, 2019 and weighing approximately 40 kg. In everyday life, Leyla proves to be an amazingly uncomplicated companion. She can easily stay alone, enjoys car rides and loves water. On the leash she walks well but sometimes reacts impulsively in dog encounters. Therefore we are looking for people who can give her calm and confident guidance in such situations. We experience Leyla as a rather quiet, laid-back dog that doesn't constantly need action. What is more important to her are security, closeness and reliable people by her side. Especially nice: Leyla knows children and greets them friendly and openly. With other dogs, she decides based on sympathy. In her previous home she lived together with a small Chihuahua dog which shows that living with fellow dogs is generally possible. Nevertheless, she doesn't get along equally well with every dog. Therefore we are looking for people who can assess dog behavior well and already have experience with dogs. For Leyla we are not looking for a home where she is chosen only because of her impressive appearance. We are looking for people with heart, patience and responsibility - people who see what really is in her: a sensitive, loving dog that seeks closeness and at the same time needs clear, fair and reliable leadership. Whoever gets to know Leyla will quickly realize: behind her strong build hides a very big heart.

About Leyla

What life with Leyla looks like

Leyla is a large adult chihuahua dog waiting at Tierheim Lübbersdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leyla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leyla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübbersdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leyla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leyla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübbersdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leyla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leyla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübbersdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leyla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
