Lilia

Female · Young · 2 years

The lovely Lilia used to live on the streets of Bonn alongside many other cats. As is often the case with unneutered street cats, she gave birth to at least one litter of kittens. Her daughters Lucia and Hetty were lucky—they were rescued and can now be rehomed together. Lilia has settled into a room with several other shy cats, and to our surprise, she already strolled confidently and curiously around the area on her very first night. She doesn't seem to have any trouble getting along with other cats—though given her past in a large feline group, that would actually be rather surprising. During the day, she likes to hide near two big tomcats who find humans just as scary as she does. Unfortunately, Lilia still doesn't want anything to do with us at all. However, considering her background, this isn't unusual. We've worked with many shy cats before, and we know that in just a few weeks, the world could look completely different for her. Even if the little long-haired lady eventually finds some peace and gets used to the presence of people, she's not a good match for cat beginners or children. You'll need to approach her with caution, calmness, and above all, plenty of patience. We'll keep an eye on her progress and report here on how Lilia develops—and whether she might even find a four-legged companion at the cat shelter. Whether alone or with another cat, once she's fully adjusted after a long period of acclimatization, Lilia should again be allowed to roam freely outdoors in her future home.

DE·Show original

About Lilia

What life with Lilia looks like

Lilia is a large young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lilia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lilia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lilia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lilia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lilia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lilia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lilia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
