Adopt Lino

Domestic Shorthair · Male · 13 years

Lino came to us in 2011 as a found stray with a big luggage load to our animal shelter. Unfortunately, Lino sometimes attacks unexpectedly and without much warning. His advanced age has made him much more calm, and attacks are now very rare. In his younger years, he didn't particularly like other cats either. Nowadays, however, he lives in a 2-cat home and shows a rather tolerant attitude toward his roommate. Lino is not rehomed anymore! He is truly getting old, and there are regularly bad phases where he doesn't want to eat or even get up. He no longer accepts changes as easily as he used to. As soon as something is changed, he stands in the middle of the room and meows. We simply cannot trust him to handle such a change to a new environment from stress. He is allowed to spend his last months here. Lino is now severely hypothyroid, and his kidneys do not look good on ultrasound either. He is on special food and has a heart murmur.

About Lino

What life with Lino looks like

Lino is a large adult domestic shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Severe hyperthyroidism, kidney issues visible on ultrasound, heart murmur, requires special diet, elderly care needs, stress-sensitive

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wiesbaden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wiesbaden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wiesbaden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
