Apollo und Adelheid

Domestic Shorthair · Male · 3 years

Apollo und Adelheid came back unfortunately due to Adelheid's unsanitary behavior, whose extent was not fully realized in their new home. Originally, the sibling pair was given to us because they started doing their business outside the litter box after a child joined the family. Apollo also showed unsanitary behavior during his first stay with us, but in his new home, it became clear that this behavior subsided when he gained unrestricted access to the outdoors. Therefore, this unrestricted access is essential in their new home. Apollo wanders around a lot then. However, he always comes back home for his meals and to snuggle. Apollo enjoys being stroked, but only on his terms. He is a curious and active tomcat who likes to be kept busy and responds well to food motivation. In 2021, a patellar luxation was diagnosed on the left side and was also operated on. Fortunately, this old injury has not caused him any problems so far. Adelheid is also a very friendly cat who loves to be stroked and wants to be a lot with her people. She is a bit more laid-back than Apollo and does not have such a strong urge to go outside. Only on nice weather can she sometimes be found in our outdoor area. Otherwise, she prefers to make herself comfortable inside and waits for people or food. The two are only conditionally compatible with other cats and would rather not share their new home. For Apollo und Adelheid, we wish for a home where they are accepted and loved despite the fact that Adelheid is very likely to remain unsanitary, and without other animals and small children.

DE·Show original

About Apollo und Adelheid

What life with Apollo und Adelheid looks like

Apollo und Adelheid is a large adult domestic shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Apollo has history of patellar luxation surgery (2021), requires outdoor access, may have litter box issues. Adelheid has ongoing litter box problems.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo und Adelheid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo und Adelheid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wiesbaden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo und Adelheid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo und Adelheid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wiesbaden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo und Adelheid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo und Adelheid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wiesbaden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo und Adelheid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
