LIO, ehem. NERO

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt Lio now! His story: 3400 Burgdorf, Switzerland. Unfortunately, Lio—formerly Nero—lost his home due to changes in his family's personal circumstances. In May 2020, he was rehomed from Romania to his Swiss home. He has adapted well, loves playing, especially with other dogs, snuggling, and is eager to learn and affectionate. However, some things still cause him stress, such as small children or loud engines. On a leash, he sometimes barks at larger dogs if it feels too crowded. Unfortunately, Lio brought an old injury from Romania with him. It is likely he was hit by a vehicle and now has a shortened leg. With regular physiotherapy, this currently causes him no problems. However, he should not be overexerted and still requires physiotherapy. We and the veterinarians cannot predict how it will develop with age. Currently, no further veterinary treatment is necessary. Lio is of a rather large size at 63 cm, has a slim, athletic build at 23 kg, and is approximately 3 years old. He gets along well with cats in the house. Lio is an alert, wonderful dog who enjoys a lot of activities with his family. However, he also needs consistency and security, as he becomes insecure and stressed otherwise. We wish and need a quiet, experienced home for Lio that loves him and provides security, where his disability is not a hindrance. Our Lio is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. Will you fall in love with this handsome hundemann?

Verliebst du dich in diesen hübschen Hundemann?

About LIO, ehem. NERO

What life with LIO, ehem. NERO looks like

LIO, ehem. NERO is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting LIO, ehem. NERO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about LIO, ehem. NERO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw LIO, ehem. NERO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt LIO, ehem. NERO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is LIO, ehem. NERO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if LIO, ehem. NERO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know LIO, ehem. NERO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
