Lio

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Lio was left behind on a field. Alone and covered in wounds, apparently caused by other dogs. To this day, some scars bear witness to Lio's suffering. The approximately two-year-old male had good fortune in misfortune and is currently allowed to rest in a loving foster family on site. There, he shows an amazing resilience and the will and strength to gain new trust every day. Initially, Lio was very afraid. Fear of people, new environments, and changes in his learned routines. He struggled with great fear and panic, especially in enclosed spaces. During one of these panic attacks, he jumped out of the open window on the second floor. Fortunately, he remained uninjured, except for a small leg injury, and this has healed completely. Then came the turning point in Lio's life. Through the calm and confident dog of his foster family, Lio gained significant self-confidence and learned that the world can also be a good and safe place. He has learned that walks are discovery tours and moves outside without panic. On the contrary, when he pulls on the leash or runs in zigzags, it's no longer out of panic but out of eagerness and euphoria. The brave fellow is compatible with other dogs. With appropriate socialization, Lio is a playful and cheerful dog who gets along wonderfully with small and medium-sized dogs. Very large dogs make him feel insecure and overwhelmed. Lio also shows a hunting instinct, which is why no cats should live in his future home. Lio is an active, clever, curious, and athletic dog. He loves to run, romp, explore his surroundings, and chase birds. Therefore, we are looking for an active and athletic family for Lio who enjoys physically and mentally challenging him. We are sure that Lio will develop further and make great progress in the right environment. The handsome Lio is not a dog for a cramped city apartment that could trigger his fear of enclosed spaces again. He needs a rural home with an escape-proof garden where he can move freely. A confident first dog could also continue to be a wonderful help for Lio and strengthen his self-confidence. Lio still needs to learn a lot and this requires time, patience, and empathy. A loving home or foster home would be another big step into a happy future. Lio has tested positive for Anaplasma. He was treated, of course, and has repeatedly demonstrated his resilience during his recovery. He never lost his appetite and always kept his fighting spirit. The development that Lio has made in this short time is both impressive and admirable. With people who allow Lio to build trust at his own pace, he forms an unusually deep bond. Whoever decides for Lio will also learn a lot from him. He is a shining example that it is worth overcoming your fears and never losing faith in the good. Lio travels neutered, chipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and dewormed with his EU pet passport to his new home. After a positive pre-control and against a deposit, he can finally embark on his journey to happiness. Would you like to grow together with Lio into an unbeatable team and go through thick and thin together? Then please contact us! Many thanks, Lea, for surprising Thorge with this naming sponsorship on the anniversary! You have certainly made Thorge a great pleasure and given Lio the chance of a lifetime. Thank you very much! Stand: 04.10.2026

About Lio

What life with Lio looks like

Lio is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
