Adopt Liza

Female · Adult · 8 years

The beautiful tabby Lisa was brought to us on a cold December day. She was so weak and small, frozen and infested with thousands of fleas, that she looked like a kitten a few months old. Her eyes were inflamed and closed from pain, and her teeth and gums were so inflamed that she probably hadn't been able to eat properly for weeks. A check-up showed that the fragile Lisa was actually a grown cat several years old. Studies found that the kitten had anemia and FIV. The little cat was in a very bad condition. It had to be treated for months before she was even healthy enough to be spayed. After many antibiotics, treatments and anti-inflammatories, she began to slowly recover. Her condition improved enough to be operated on. The right eye was too damaged and had to be removed. After spaying and removing the rotten teeth that caused so much pain to the little Lisa, she suddenly started to improve. Her appetite is excellent, her weight is normalized, her fur is smooth, and there is no trace of anemia. Lisa is healthy and happy, feels great and loves to purr. The only thing she is missing now... is a home.

About Liza

What life with Liza looks like

Liza is a small adult dog waiting at Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) in Sofia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: FIV positive, missing right eye, requires ongoing monitoring

🇧🇬Adopting from Bulgaria

Bulgarian shelters typically include full vet workup, sterilization, and passport. Many coordinate with EU rescue partners for direct transport to adopter cities in Germany, Netherlands, and Austria.

Frequently asked

Adopting Liza, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Liza?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Liza on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Liza if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Liza already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Liza isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Four Paws Bulgaria (ЧЕТИРИ ЛАПИ) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Liza and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (BG). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
