Adopt Lizus

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Lizus, a dog born in 2021, Lizus is exceptionally friendly and sociable. Upon arriving at the shelter, Lizus was severely underweight but showed no fear and did not lose trust in humans. On the contrary, it was evident from the start that Lizus was a very well-mannered and friendly dog, for whom humans are the most important. Lizus loves to lick their caregivers' hands, and this is where their original name came from. They want to express gratitude for the good care they receive. Even with strangers, Lizus reacts positively and warmly greets them. Lizus handles all medical procedures well, showing real patience. By nature, the dog is very gentle and docile, but with other dogs, they can behave differently. If Lizus feels a bit of jealousy towards another dog, conflicts may arise. Lizus would definitely prefer the company of humans and would be the happiest with their own owner. Lizus always stays close to humans and tries to listen to them. They can even shake hands on command. Lizus will do practically anything to make the caregiver happy. Lizus also knows how to walk nicely on a leash, leading confidently and hardly tugging. For a long time, Lizus was on a high-calorie diet with us to improve their body shape, and we succeeded. Now, the dog weighs a solid 27 kilograms and looks much more substantial. It's crucial to be careful not to overfeed them. Lizus is a voracious eater and can consume a large amount of food at once. They also have plenty of energy and need regular walks to burn it off. Sometimes, Lizus behaves like a grown-up puppy and is very hard to tire. The dog likes to bark, but mainly to get the caregiver's attention or when they are hungry. Such a sympathetic, effusive, and exceptionally well-mannered dog should be placed in good and responsible hands as soon as possible. There is a great potential for Lizus to become a wonderful and devoted family pet, so we hope that someone will eventually notice and give them a safe and caring home. Lizus is microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered.

Lizus, pies urodzony w 2021r. Lizus to wyjątkowo proludzki i towarzyski psiak. On zrobi praktycznie wszystko żeby opiekun był z niego zadowolony. Trzeba mocno uważać żeby go nie przekarmić. Taki sympatyczny, wylewny i wyjątkowo grzeczny psiak powinien czym prędzej trafić w dobre i odpowiedzialne ręce. Drzemie w nim duży potencjał do stania się wspaniałym i oddanym psem rodzinnym, więc mamy nadzieję że ktoś go w końcu wypatrzy i podaruje mu bezpieczny i troskliwy dom. Lizus jest odrobaczony, odpchlony, zaszczepiony, zaczipowany i wykastrowany.

About Lizus

What life with Lizus looks like

Lizus is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lizus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lizus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lizus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lizus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lizus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lizus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lizus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
