Loki

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Puppy · 10 months

Meet Loki! This handsome young boy is just 10 months old and is looking for a patient and understanding home to help him continue growing in confidence. He can be timid and nervous when meeting new people, but with a little time, kindness and reassurance he soon comes around and starts to show his true personality. His adopters will need to continue building his confidence in new situations through positive reinforcement and gentle encouragement. Once he feels comfortable, he is a fun-loving, giddy youngster who is full of energy and enthusiasm. He loves to play, enjoys interaction, and can get quite excitable. He is known to jump up for attention, so ongoing training and consistency will help him learn good manners. As you would expect from a young dog, he is still learning. He can be vocal in his kennel and is currently very strong on the lead, so he will benefit from further lead training and guidance from his new adopter. With the right home willing to invest time in his training and confidence building, this sweet young lad has all the makings of a fantastic companion. He would benefit from a private secure garden with an experienced owner. Loki is very under-socialised around other dogs and is quite unsure around them so we feel he would be best rehomed as the only dog in the home where his new adopter can slowly introduce him to other dogs in a controlled environment with lots of positive reinforcement. Puppy training classes would be great for him. As Loki came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him and as he can be a little unsure around new people we would prefer any children in the home to be 16+ years.

About Loki

What life with Loki looks like

Loki is a large puppy/kitten staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
