London

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 10 years

When older dogs like London wander alone through an olive grove and spontaneously join other walkers, it's always suspected that someone has gotten rid of a dog sitter - and often to get a puppy. When you then meet London, a real heartbreaker who just wants to be someone's best friend again as quickly as possible, you really don't want to believe how many people manage to abandon their long-term companion. But reality catches up with us again and again... London is certainly very happy that the family he followed for kilometers didn't turn away but informed the animal welfare workers that the handsome, approximately 10-year-old (as of 04/2022) terrier mix was wandering around alone. Our partners in Andalusia didn't even have to look for long; as soon as the car stopped in the olive grove, London was already waiting to get in. Now the friendly senior lives in the animal shelter and hopes that someone will soon fall in love with him and offer him a nice home for many more beautiful years. London is a quiet and affectionate four-legged friend who loves comfortable walks and cuddles devotedly. The friendly old man gets along well with other four-legged friends, but of course he isn't as fit as he used to be to keep up with a teenager and play all day. A nice siesta, undisturbed on the soft dog bed, is already routine for London - and he would definitely be happy if his human would share this preference with him. London may not be the youngest anymore, but he's certainly not yet old iron. If you're looking for a friendly, cheerful, uncomplicated buddy, with a practical size and excellent hot water bottle qualities, you should contact us immediately. London would be thrilled to decorate your couch soon.

About London

What life with London looks like

London is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting London, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about London?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw London on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt London if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is London already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if London isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know London and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
